Born and raised in Prince George, Shannon has been a high school Humanities and Drama educator in School District #57 since 1998. She has been passionate about assessment for about 15 years. Since her first assessment conference in Victoria in 2008, she has been exploring no zeroes, no homework, feedback only, and standards-based grading. In 2018, Shannon created a proficiency sequence to support teachers in my building following a gradeless mandate. Since then, she has been writing voraciously in her blog (www.mygrowthmindset.home.blog) sharing the slings and arrows of going gradeless. Shannon also post frequently as the administrator of Beyond Report Cards, a Facebook group created with the ideal that BC educators need a communication platform to support each other on our assessment journeys. Between posting, writing, speaking, and tweeting, she has longed for assessment reform in BC which is why the invitation to be a part of this grassroots consortium has been so tantalizing! When not developing proficiency sequences, coaching colleagues about gradeless, she can be found with her nose in a book, running her daughter, Victoria, 16, to soccer, supporting her son, Alexander, as he finishes his third year at the University of Northern British Columbia, enjoying her country acreage with her husband, Ken, walking my dog, or cuddling her two cats.
